The Commission on the
Advancement of Women and Minorities in Science, Engineering,
and Technology Development was established by Congress on October
14, 1998, through legislation developed and sponsored by Congresswomen
Constance A. Morella (R-MD). The mandate of the Commission is
to research and recommend ways to improve the recruitment, retention,
and representation of women, underrepresented minorities (namely,
African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and American Indians),
and persons with disabilities in science, engineering, and technology
(SET) education and employment. |

Girls' Education guide was created in response to the 1995 International
Women's Conference in Beijing by the San Francisco Bay Area
Girls' Education Network. The network is comprised of a volunteer
group of teachers, parents, writers, sociologists, and academicians
who wish to provide educators with concrete ways to raise awareness
with regards to educational access and equity for girls around
the globe. |
